The latest kid-friendly hockey game from EA Sports comes with a plastic peripheral that you can also use to harpoon and slaughter minke whales

Calling on the talents of hockey legend Wayne Gretzky to promote the new game, EA Sports will tomorrow be announcing NHL Slapshot, a game that requires players to affix their Wii Remotes and Nunchuks into a plastic attachment in order to play. Yup, looking like a retard is no longer optional with Slapshot, as the game’s control scheme discards MotionPlus in favour of a system that responds to both the motion sensors in the Wii Remote and Nunchuk.

The game will focus on recreating players actual hockey-stick motions in-game, and will aim to help kids develop real-world hockey skills such as when to take a slap shot. You’ll be able to create an in-game avatar of yourself with an age range of 12 to 40 years. Who knows? Maybe the game will actually emulate ice hockey moves realistically, but no-one can deny the sheer weapon-like looks of the hockey-stick attachment.

It’s highly likely that these will be the last Pokémon games to be released for the DS family as Nintendo’s next handheld console, the 3DS, is expected to be out by March next year. The current games, HeartGold and SoulSilver Versions have sold over 8.4 million units to date worldwide.

Expect a few Sega games to grace the 3DS when it launches

In a new interview, Segas Naoya Tsurumi has revealed that the company is very keen on the Nintendo 3DS, saying that he believes "3D will become a big wave", that "the Nintendo 3DS is a landmark hardware" and theyd "like to invest heavily in it". While it was always certain we’d see Sega 3DS games, we now know they’re investing some time into it.

Also revealed in the interview were the sales figures for Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games. The game has shipped a staggering 6.53 million units over two the DS and the Wii. Sega, though, was hoping for 7 million sales, citing that the game didn’t sell as well in North America as they had hoped. Six and a half million guys? Clearly, a bomb.

After squeezing Modern Warfare onto the Wii, Treyarch is intent on bettering that

First details about the upcoming Wii version of Call of Duty: Black Ops have been revealed in a new preview. After taking Modern Warfare and squeezing it onto the Wii, Treyarch is again set to work their magic on the little white box and bring the best Black Ops experience to Wii owners.

There is a separate team making the Wii version and it’s being completely built up from scratch for the Wii - no shoehorning this time. Treyarch is attempting to give Wii owners the same experience you will get on the HD consoles and that includes online co-op. Yes, it’s not often that the Wii version goes toe-to-toe with the HD console in features.

Treyarch is even negotiating with Nintendo in regards to the game’s online features; hopefully this means that we’ll get the same sort of deal with Black Ops that Monster Hunter Tri got, that means no friends codes.

More information about the game can be sought in Cubed3’s preview.

Have you ever play Wii Cave Story? If not you should try it. Playing Cave Story is like discovering a fantastic NES game. Cave story will give you a right feeling on Nintendo System. Cave story was released a few years ago on the PC and it became a cult classic overnight. For those who are not familiar with Cave Story, it is a game that barrows it gameplay roots from the Metroid series.

This game is worth notable for so many reasons and really worth buying for. It is considered as the successor of Super Metroid in 2D action. There are also elements of Mario and Mega Man and also shares the insanity of Treasures titles packed in.

Cave Story is a proof that there can be fun boss fight in an action game. It’s story contains a good deal of subtext and imaginative.  It feels like a macabre fairy tale. The game starts with your character, a recon reboot named as Quote with no knowledge as in the dark player.

This game will take you into a rare world where curious race innocent will surely enjoy. In this game you are called Mimiga run free. You wake up in a dark cave with no memory of who you are, where you came from or you’re in that place. I myself is addicted into this game and I really love it.

Apples been copping the flack, but Nintendo have Wiis made there too

With the news of an in increase factory workers at Foxconn in China committing suicide it seems Nintendo is keen to look into the issue. Apple has been taking most of the flack over this but Nintendo and other companies like Dell and Microsoft have products made by Foxconn.

The Japanese news source Nikkei is reporting that Nintendo is concerned about the condition about the works and will be launching and official investigation into the matter. Not only that but if the media starts to pick on them as well as Apple it won’t look good too.

It’s clear as day conditions aren’t as good as they could be there, lets hope all the companies involved look at doing things rather than just investigating.

First details of the next rocking Guitar Hero have emerged

More news from the sneak peak at the latest issue of Nintendo Power with Guitar Hero 6; Warriors of Rock getting a run down. The developers this time around are doing things different, well about time we say. The game is going back to its Rock N’ Roll roots and going a little bit crazy with a heavy metal theme this time around. There is even a story line that will be narrated by Gene Simmons and tells the story of the battle between ’The Beast’ and the Demigod of Rock.

The preview is obviously of the Wii version and they say "All of the cool features and things we did in GH5 – the level of polish – [are] still there. Party Play still exists. The ability to play with any instrument combination – all that stuff is still in the game. But what we strove to do here is hand-pick all the songs". Says Brian Bright from Neversoft. "We wanted to focus first and foremost on shredding kind of rock,".

Vicarious Vision is still handling the excellent Wii versions of the game.

Kirby, Spartans and Tentacles Another well rounded update this week

While a huge nine games hit the European Nintendo stores this week, we Aussies are left with only 5... alright, not that bad, and are there is a good variety of games. Oh what? Its actually a good week!

WiiWare games two new puzzlers, first is Art Style Penta Tentacles. Yep sounds gross but is just game puzzle game, no dodgy tentacles here. Voodoo Dice is the second game and we have no idea how to properly explain it to you, so watch this trailer instead.

Virtual Console gets the ever great Kirbys Fun Pack. A Kirby compilation of 8 smaller games, you may have recently seen Kirby Super Star on the Nintendo DS, and this is the original version of that compilation. Its a great collection of Kirby themed games but the DS remake is better.

DSi owners arent left out either with Gamelofts Hero of Sparta making its way to the Nintendo DSi. This God of War clone even allows you to put your ugly mug on the enemies in the game. Way to beat up on yourself. Lastly there is another Flips title out, Flips The Magic Faraway Tree. You know those interactive book for the kiddies from EA? This is a little more pricier at 500 points.

WiiWare
Art Style: Penta Tentacles (Nintendo) - 600 Points
Voodoo Dice (Ubisoft) - 1000 Points

Virtual Console
Kirby’s Fun Pack (SNES, Nintendo) - 800 Points

DSiWare
Hero Of Sparta (Gameloft) - 800 Points
Flips The Magic Faraway Tree (EA) - 500 Points
