The classic SNES spin-off of Squaresofts Final Fantasy series has popped up on the Australian Classification Boards recent batch of classified games

Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest was Squaresoft’s attempt to nerf down the Final Fantasy experience to make it more palatable to western gamers, with a stronger emphasis on action gaming than the traditional RPG formula. The recent listing by the Aussie Classification Board pretty much guarantees that we’re set to see the game hit the Virtual Console download service in coming months.

The game was first released here in 1993, and was a moderately successful title at retail. For its time, the title was quite divisive among the Final Fantasy-faithful, with the toned-down RPG elements off-putting to those savouring a richer, traditional adventure. Well, we’ll all be able to see what all the fuss is about soon enough when it hits the Wii Shop Channel, and it’s encouraging to see that Nintendo hasn’t forgotten about this classic or the Virtual Console service just yet.

There will be plenty of cheers and tears as both the Individual and Tag Team champions are crowned. Not only will the champions gain the glory and respect of a nation, each will win an all-expenses-paid trip to the Big Apple, plus $1000 to go on a shopping spree at the Nintendo World Store.

If you happen to live in Sydney, why not come along and support all the finalists, including our very own members Akiyo and ShadowLizard, and make it a day to remember? We have the details below.

New 2D and 3D footage shown at Comic-Con, as well as screen shots

Comic-Con has kicked off, and that means more information on upcoming games. Warren Spector (of Deus Ex and Thief fame) and Junction Point Studios have shown off some more screens and footage of their upcoming collaboration title with Disney, Epic Mickey. Most of the footage is of the 2D sections based on the Plutopia and Oh What a Knight. The paint-brush and thinner mechanic is shown off as well, as are some story sections.

Nothing too new, but still the footage looks very promising.

And by screen shots we mean cam shots from Comic-con

Street Fighter received a huge outing at Comic-Con this weekend. While all Nintendo consoles missed out on the Tekken X Street Fighter action, there has been some new shots of the 3D version of Super Street Fighter IV for 3DS revealed.

It appears that the 3DS is proving to be quite the graphical beasts too with the screen shots showing off some nice fidelity.

Were trying something new on Mondays, were taking a look back at the week gone by and it needs a name

Really, a slow week all around until we hit Thursday night and one little game called Sin and Punishment 2 showed up on JB Hi-Fis site. It turned into an interesting tale with the game turning out to be less of a Punch-Out!! situation and more JB Hi-Fi just importing UK copies and selling them on their own volition. The only problem is that Sin and Punishment 2 isnt classified here... so yeah good idea, in practice.

This week also saw the revelation that the Legend of Zelda series actually has a time line, but Nintendo are not going to tell us anytime soon. The R18+ decision was also pushed back again, boo politics.

Around the forums
- Plasmadavid just found out about the easter egg in the GameCube boot noises - did you know about it?

- With the Connection Tour 10 in full swing in Sydney last week, there was plenty to discuss about a close final

- Street Fighter X Tekken got announced, fighting fans on the forums got most excited (yes we talk about non-Nintendo stuff!)

- The 2010 Battle Royal is on (aka the boring Election), forum members share their thoughts

This weeks releases

Yup nothing. As usual be sure to check on Friday for the weekly Nintendo downloads.

So remember the name of this article must convey the three things it covers and must easy to figure out what it is from a glance!
