Everyone knows who Mario is. Decades ago this has been the most sought after character in any video games. Due to its popularity a mini-series was also created intended for Mario and Luigi. After the era of family computer declines, Mario and the rest of the gang was put into shelve.

super mario galaxy main The Super Mario Galaxy 2

Good thing with the Wii, the adventures of Mario had been relieved for kids and kids at heart alike. As such this has been tagged as the Super Mario Galaxy. It currently has two versions and the latest of the collection is the Super Mario Galaxy 2. If we are to compare the two, the latter eventually is more challenging and more varied. This alone makes it double the fun.

This holds the same concept as its predecessor. In fact almost everything can be tagged and compare like the engine used and controls. The only thing that sets this one apart from its previous version is it is more enjoyable and fantastic. This is perhaps taken from the mere fact that its creator learned so many thing s with the first version. At least they realized what needs to be improved, fixed and consider as well.

The game itself is very enjoyable even with the very first version. As such players tend to roam to different areas that are very creative and colourful in nature. You may jump to various places like planetoids with refined gameplay mechanics. With the Super Mario Galaxy 2, the game is taken a notch higher as it commences with new addition. The new version would be interactive as evident by its introduction. Players can actually control Mario in a 2D view as they learn a whole new play mechanism. Nonetheless another good thing about this one is that it will guide you throughout the process of playing. Much more your learning will not be forced within the game.

Another thing to look forward to in this new version is the game’s progression. It is in here where the transition was actually simplified as a player moves to different worlds. This is almost like the 2D maps in various Mario games like the Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World. Perhaps you would also like to try its Play For me Mode that is somewhat taken from the New Super Mario Bros Wii. Nonetheless with all these features and even more, the game in itself is really fun even though it holds the same concept and challenge. Majority of the levels are evidently seen in the previous version such as the concept of galaxy exploration along with new twists and mechanics.

Overall, I must say that the Super Mario Galaxy 2 is a total improvement of the previous one. With that said it would be wise to really get yourself a new copy as you will definitely enjoy the game. If ever you find satisfaction and challenge from the previous one, no doubt you will also experience the same in this second version of the game.

Japan, Europe and America are set? So what about for us Aussies? Update: Looks like its March too!

In all the excitement of yesterdays announcements we forgot to take a step back and say "Hang on, when are we getting it?". While an exact date for Japan was given, both Europe and America only got a rough ’March’. Usually we’d assume Australia would fall under the European banner but with hit and miss release windows that we get for things in Australia, assuming this now would be foolhardy.

Nintendo Australia was approached for comment but we’ve yet to get a reply, which to be fair - it’s over 6 months away at best and Nintendo plays its cards extremely close to its chest.

Our tip? Don’t expect a closer release date announcement for Europe and America until at least after Christmas and don’t expect an Australian one possibly even later. Definitely until next year.

UPDATE: We would love to be proven wrong however.... and it looks like we were!

Vigilant reader of Vooks, Josh has spotted this tasty morsel of information from the transcript of Iwata’s presentation from yesterday. "As for the U.S., Europe and Australia, the launch will be in March 2011, and our overseas subsidiaries will make their own announcements on such details as the price and the launch date later."

So 3DS for Australia in March 2011, a closer date and price though we’ll still have to wait for.

Thanks to Josh for pointing this out! Let the countdown begin!

And it looks much better than your average port

Nintendo Japan today released several new screens of the upcoming and highly anticipated 3DS enhanced remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Showing off not only new screenshots but some brief footage, the game appears to increase the visual quality, change around the controls a bit and revamp the inventory system.

From the screens released, we can see that all the inventory will be managed on the bottom screen, leaving the top screen to remain clean and be much more cinematic.

The screenshots also show some minor revisions to Link’s character model, as well as some retouches of the item models and such. What’s a bit more exciting is that this 3D remake will be launching sometime before April 2011. With Skyward Sword allegedly arriving sometime during that period too, Zelda fans may have a lot to be excited about in the upcoming months.

But its one you may have already seen before

Not to be outdone by the plethora of new game announcements in the past day, Namco Bandai have announced that they will be porting the 2005/2006 Japanese RPG Tales of the Abyss to the Nintendo 3DS. Besides the actual announcement that a 3DS port is in the works, the publisher didn’t reveal any new details regarding the port, instead releasing a few small screens to give players an idea of how the game would look on the 3DS.

Tales of the Abyss received a rather admirable average rating of 79% on GameRankings, so hopefully those who have not played it will have an idea of what to expect when the game launches sometime in 2011.

And when we say quite a few, we mean more than two

SEGA have been on a roll with their 3DS support and with the recent Nintendo Conference just having come to an end, they sure arent letting themselves fade out of the limelight. Having announced two 3DS titles already, namely a Sonic title and Super Monkey Ball, SEGA today released more media for Super Monkey Ball 3D. Boasting wireless play with friends and online, as well as controls through both the 3DSs slide pad and tilt function, Super Monkey Ball 3D aims to be just as substantial as other releases in the past.

Whats perhaps more interesting, however, is that SEGA has claimed to have a grand total of six 3DS titles in development for the system. Its currently unknown if these titles will be from their already well established franchises or brand new IPs. Wed opt for the former, but well just have to wait and see.

For the games we do know, however, the tentatively named Super Monkey Ball 3D is due for release in all regions by the end of March 2011. The six games that SEGA claim to be developing are all slated to be released by the end of March 2012, just in case you were wondering.

Wii Remote with a Wii MotionPlus inside has been confirmed

Nintendos Conference for 2010 wasnt just for the Nintendo 3DS, no there was actually some Wii news in there with one of the big ones being the confirmation of the Wii Remote Plus. As the name suggests, its simply the same Wii Remote we know and love, this time with the addition of the Wii MotionPlus sensor built in.

The control will be available in the same White, Black, Pink and Aqua colours. Pricing and release dates will be announced at a later time.

See the games "appeal" in motion, instead of just screens

Tecmo and Team Ninja have today released their first trailer for Dead or Alive: Dimensions, the first true Dead or Alive title since 2005s Dead or Alive 4. Performing almost on par with the console versions, Dead or Alive: Dimensions appears to follow in the footsteps of its predecessors by providing not only beautiful character models but great environments and costumes for characters too. While this is the first title to be produced without series mastermind Tomonobu Itagaki, Team Ninja are definitely putting a lot of effort into the game to get as much out of the 3DS. But enough talk, the promotional video just recently released should put our words into context for you.

Dead or Alive: Dimensions is definitely coming for the Nintendo 3DS, but there is no release date given for any regions as of yet. Well let you know when we know.

Includes a full wireless keyboard, yes, you read right

Hot off the heels of the information overload that Nintendo have provided us with, they’ve sneakily announced Pokémon Typing, a game in which players must battle Pokémon throughout different environments, including forests, beaches, caves and many more. The catch? Pokémon are defeated entirely through typing. Thankfully, the game seems to feature Pokémon not only from the original games but also from the upcoming Pokémon Black and White, of which so far "Zoroa" is only confirmed to be appearing.

Quick to shoot down questions, The Pokémon Company has announced that they will be bundling the game with a Wireless Keyboard in order to make the game a little more playable. Unfortunately, the publisher hasn’t revealed just what this keyboard looks like, although screenshots suggest that the game may be playable without this peripheral.

Pokémon Typing doesn’t have a set release date for Australia yet (and we don’t know if it ever will either). It will not be available until 2011, though.
