The 3DS launched to the public last night at a big event in Melbourne, full report

Nintendo Australia launched the Nintendo 3DS to the masses at the Nintendo Experience Store last night in style. The there was a ton of people in attendance and everyone was buzzing to get their hands on their own Nintendo 3DS finally! Games and accessories were selling fast before the system launch with Street Fighter IV being the top seller, so much so that it had sold out by 11:57. Most people walked away with a game and an accessory pack for their new system on the night.

But the system didn’t go on sale until the stroke of midnight, so before that and rapid buying of games and accessories Nintendo put on a show like they usually do with tons of freebies like mugs, lanyards and even T-shirts. The ever awesome Jamie was MC for the night and kept everyone in high spirits and making the wait not seem as long.

After a big countdown the system went on sale at midnight to a cheering and hollering crowd, the Nintendo 3DS had finally arrived. Things went smoothly with people actually picking up a console having had to prepay for their preorder. Cool story of the night had to be about the female Link in cosplay. She picked up the Nintendo 3DS door prize despite not even having a preorder!

We snapped a few pictures of the evening, check out if you can see yourself!

Thanks to PoopiDoggi and Nibbler for attending and snapping some pics. Shout out to EXC355UM for helping them out!

Those rewards will now be in closer reach

Nintendo Australia has confirmed what was revealed as the case in Europe; select third-party 3DS games will contain Club Nintendo PINs. Currently, only Nintendo-published Wii and DS games as well as Wii and DSi hardware qualify for the program. We can reveal, however, that Capcom’s 3DS launch title Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition will indeed be the first third-party game to have a Club Nintendo code.

Registering third-party 3DS games will score you a whopping 250 Stars 200 Stars (corrected). Nintendo did not mention whether first-party games were worth just as much Stars, but we’re guessing they will be. The 3DS itself will also be participating in the program, and for that you’ll get 500 Stars. You can finally get that Mario pencil case you’ve always wanted.

Takes a little while for the submarine to travel down under

While the hang gliding actions of Pilotwings Resort will only take a mere two weeks to arrive post 3DS launch in Australia, Nintendo’s only other title will be here just over a month later on May 12.

Yes, Nintendo has dated Steel Diver for just over a month away and yeah, we’re not sure why. We’re missing out on it for launch, but maybe having another choice of something to buy in a month won’t be too bad? Excuse me while I go rock myself crazy in the corner of the room.

Not sure on Steel Diver yet? Check our impressions of the game from Nintendo World 2011.

Nintendo's 3DS, which launched in the U.S. on Sunday, has become the bestselling handheld launch the company has ever measured. However, it didn't release sales figures.

Better hope one of them is yours or you might be out of luck

Nintendo Australia today revealed first week sales figures for Pokemon Black and White, but what about the next big thing from Nintendo that’s out this week? Well the Nintendo 3DS isn’t out yet, but according to Nintendo who have told Kotaku AU that the system has more pre-sales (pre-orders) than any other Nintendo device in Australia, even more than the Wii.

Nintendo is still expecting a sell out of the console despite saying they’ll have more stock than the Wii had back in 2006. If you miss out on day one or two though, Nintendo says stocks will be dribbling in over the coming weeks.

We’ll have to wait a week or two to see how well they did, records to be broken? Let’s wait and see.

Be sure to check out our full review of the Nintendo 3DS hardware here.

Nintendo knows, but really were no more clear on it too

Over the past few days since the Nintendo 3DS launched in America and Europe, more and more people have been coming across whats being dubbed as the black screen of death. A screen that pops up on the Nintendo 3DS randomly that is black and contains a warning saying an error has occurred and the system should be shut down. It happens randomly and without warning and its annoying people who its happened too.

Nintendo has spoken out on the issue saying that if you happen to get the error, then update your system and then see if it happens. If it does, then you should contact your local Nintendo branch for help.

Here at the Vooks HQ, were yet to get this error on either our Australian or Japanese console and the latter weve had for over a month now and no sign of the error.

Controlling a motorbike with the balance board, sure why not

We’re no strangers to seeing all kinds of unreleased concepts from Nintendo, but this one is a little bit more interesting. A recently filed patent sees Nintendo’s branch, Nintendo Software Technology (the guys behind the also-unreleased Project H.A.M.M.E.R. and Mario vs. Donkey Kong games) having created what appears to be a motorcycling game designed for use with the Wii Balance Board peripheral.

Recently released illustrations suggest that the game could be played with either a Wii Remote or a Nunchuk too, with the tilting of the remote being responsible for the steering of the bike, while tilting on the (optional) Wii Balance Board would be used to make sharp turns on the race track. The illustrations suggest that such a concept was being used for both a Jet Ski and Motorcycling game, although no names or announcements have been made. Nintendo even had plans to incorporate ramps and jumps, including a nifty sounding system that meant players would have to distribute their weight properly to land gracefully.

It’s worth noting, however, that such a project has never been announced, nor will we know if it ever will. Still, if anything develops, we’ll let you be the first to know.

Its a new record: Best week one sales for a Nintendo game in Australia

We all know Pokemon sells well, but now we know how well it sells in Australia. Nintendo Australia has announced that it has sold more than 77,000 copies of the game (combined) in its first week on sale. Now 77,000 isnt a lot compared to the million or more that went in America but for the size of our market its a huge huge amount.

To compare Pokémon HeartGold Version and Pokémon SoulSilver Version sold only 45,000 in week one sales when it launched last year. New Super Mario Bros Wii also sold about the same (47,400) in its first week on sale in 2009 as well. That means that Pokemon Black and White are the biggest selling week one release of any Nintendo game, across any Nintendo console in the history of Nintendo in Australia. Hoohoo!

There is now a grand total of 3 million Pokemon games that have been sold in Australia since Pokemon Blue and Red. Ne
