A new crossover SRPG with Pokemon and Nobunagas Ambition from Koei Tecmo

Well it’s not Pokemon Grey, but it is something else new! Revealed on the floor of this years Jump Fiesta expo is a new Pokemon game crossover with the Koei series, Nobunaga’s Ambition. If you haven’t heard of the game series before then we don’t blame you, we had to look it up as well.

The game is apparently going to be a SRPG developed by both Koei Tecmo and Nintendo for the Nintendo DS. Pokemon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara has previously mentioned that they were still keen on producing more DS Pokemon titles. The good news for 3DS owners is that this probably means the next mainline Pokemon game will be on that system.

We’ll have more details on Nobunaga’s Ambition X Pokemon as soon as they become available.

Now to answer the big question, will it be for the DS or 3DS?

The inevitable 3rd game in the Pokemon Black and White cycle is all but confirmed, now that Nintendo’s usual dot com registration company Melbourne IT Digital Brand Services (cor thats a mouthful) has registered pokemongray.com.

The news is a bit of a “yeah, like I needed evidence to know that,” but it is interesting to wonder whether Nintendo will use this game as a way to push the 3DS or the existing Black and White fanbase. Working within the existing story of this generation of Pokemon might give the Pokemon Company a bit longer to experiment with 3DS specific features. Although they would be sacrificing the “first Pokemon in 3D!” marketing tag for the next generation of Pokemans.

Generational transitions, we live in interesting times.

Nintendo bumped up the release date and no one knew, probably

Nintendo are funny people when it comes to release dates, and when I say funny people I mean like that movie Funny People. Which wasn’t funny at all, but actually quite crap. Anyway, Kirby Mass Attack was originally set for a November 10th release date here in Australia; well it was set on that date on Nintendos website.

We received a review copy just last week and wondered why we were getting it so early and well it turns out its actually out next week! Perhaps this changed a while back and we didnt notice but whatever the case the awesome platformer is out next Thursday.

Well have our review up soon too.

Apparently Nintendo doesnt want anyone to actually buy the game...

Want Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2? Let’s just say you don’t have long to wait. Nintendo isn’t quite pulling a Sega Saturn on us, but it’s pretty close. So how long do you have to wait?

A week. Game’ll be on shelves next Thursday, or on the 20th if you like numbers. So I guess the question suddenly becomes, should you buy Monster Joker’s Dragon Quest the Second? We got you covered there too, with our resident review superstar James’ impressions going up later tonight. I won’t spoil it though, so go give that a read.

Nintendo wins another court case, joins a growing list of worldwide bans

France has now joined the list of countries which have effectively banned the importation, sales and distribution of Nintendo DS flash cards, colloquially know as R4 cards. The Paris’ Court of Appeals has issued a guilty verdict to 6 companies with punishments of fines up to 460,000 Euros and even in some cases a suspended prison term.

The case has been going for a while with Nintendo battling the distribution and sale of these devices since 2007, even though the Nintendo DS isn’t as big as it once was, it’s still important for Nintendo to stamp out these devices. Stephan Bole, Managing Director of Nintendo France said “Nintendo supported this criminal action not only for the company’s sake, but for the interests of its game developer partners who spend time and money legitimately developing software for Nintendo’s game platforms, and customers who expect the highest standards and integrity from products bearing the Nintendo name."

Sacrebleu!

France now joins the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Italy, Belguim and even Australia in cracking down on these flash cards. The Nintendo DS may be in its twilight but these devices are still very common and mostly used for blatant piracy.

Its back again and hopefully youve had enough practice now

Nintendo has announced new Pokémon Battle Competitions to be held in New South Wales and Victoria in October for players of Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version. Similar to the first Competitions that were held soon after the release of the games, the tournament will see Pokémon Trainers battle it out to see who’s the new best in each state.

The prize at each location is a Nintendo 3DS, with runners-up scoring two Nintendo DS games. Third- and fourth-placed entrants will win a DS game each. The days will also be great opportunities for event-goers to trade Pokémon data on Pokédex 3D, an app which 3DS users can download for free from the Nintendo eShop. Pokédex 3D users will also be able to interact with three AR Markers available each day, to take photos of their Pokémon in augmented reality.

Kirby Mass Attack and World War 2 Tetris adaption coming soon?

In addition to the big news of the Skyward Sword and Super Mario 3D Land release date, Nintendo Australia has also dated a couple more 3DS titles.

First up is yet another version of Tetris, it is of course the first one to be released in 3D however. If this tickles your fancy, the game’s coming out on the 29th of October. Also it seems that the game’s been renamed to just Tetris over here (and not Tetris Axis), which is a shame. It may have been silly, but the idea of a World War 2 Tetris game was pretty awesome.

Secondly we have the manic DS title Kirby Mass Attack, which will be showing up on the 10th of November. While we haven’t managed to get our hands on any final code yet, opinion overseas seems to be that the game is hot. Although we’ll have to see if it’s good enough to keep us going until Skyward Sword shows up a fortnight later.

Nintendo's investors are urging the company to bring its iconic game characters, like Mario, Luigi, Zelda, and Donkey Kong, to Apple's iPhone and iPad. The call to make games for Apple's hit mobile devices, which have fueled success for companies like PopCap and Rovio, comes after lackluster sales of Nintendo's latest 3DS handheld have driven prices of the company's stock to a 6-year low.

But despite the allure of selling millions of copies of a touchscreen-enabled Super Mario title to some 200 million iOS users, who on average play 14.7 hours of games per month, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata will have none of it.

Ivy the Kiwi was created by Yuji Naka, the co-creator of Sonic the Hedgehog. Sonic is a character that continues to enjoy a strong following, and the series gives any follow-up work a huge shadow to live under. Don't worry, this game is up to the challenge.

It appears that the developer Rockstar (of GTA fame) and publishers Take 2 are finally warming up to the Nintendo Wii. If ´Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars´ on the DS turns out to be successful then hopefully Rockstar will be prompted to bring the wonderful GTA franchise to the Nintendo Wii.
