Can a wii game from another country play on a north american wii?

My cousin from UK was going to get me " Pikmin 2, New Play control! " for the Nintendo Wii, but hes worried that a game from another country wouldn’t work on an american console. Does anybody know if a wii game from England will work on an North american wii console?
